West Coast Fishing Reports

2013 salmon fishing reports

May 15-18

Salmon fishing has been decent over the last few days.  I spent a couple days up at Clifford Point where we fished quite well.  The first day up we went 6 for 8 on salmon bites, the largest was about 12 lbs.  Most of the action came near the bottom on spoons.  Our second day up was a little slower but better size fish.  We went 3 for 3 and our biggest was a 14 lb salmon.  We also caught a 13 lb salmon that day.  Yesterday I was up at Portland Point for a short afternoon fish.  We went 2 for 5 on salmon and caught a halibut.  Not bad for a few hour fish.  I am looking forward to getting out there tomorrow.

May 4, 2013

Salmon fishing was decent this morning.  We made our way out to Portland Pt on a beautiful calm sunny day!  The action was not fast and furious, however we picked away over the course of the four hour charter.  We started fishing with a couple hoochies, but no bites.  When I switched to the spoon, the action picked up.  We went 3 for 3 on salmon over the next little bit.  Our largest salmon was 18 lbs and smallest was 14 lbs.  Not bad for early season fishing.

2012 Spring Fishing!

Aug 22 - 29, 2012

Tofino salmon and hali fishing this week has been decent enough.  The large springs we are used to at this time of the year are just not here.  We are catching local chinook salmon in on the rocks, but we have to let them go while fishing on the inside waters.  The coho salmon fishing is a lot of fun.  We are limiting out on some really nice coho.  In the last week we have caught four coho over 12 lbs. It has been super fun on light gear.  Spoons are working well and so are the needlefish hoochies.  Halibut are biting, usually running about 11 miles offshore can solidify your chances, but if patient, there are a few close to home as well. All in all, still having lots of fun on the water.

Aug 18 - 21, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing has turned bleak people.  The salmon are in few numbers, and I hate to say this, but, we are experiencing perhaps the worst salmon run in August that I have ever seen.  That said,  there are still salmon out there we just need to weed through smaller sizes and work the patience level.  I have been out to the Hyson area as well as the Ranch area.  Fishing with anchoives spoons and hoochies.  Really working the gear. Most of the action comes down deep.  There are lots of Halibuts running out there which make up for slower fishing.

Aug 15 - 17, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing has slowed a bit over the last couple days.  A couple reasons are evident.  The water temperature is a little high as well, there is an algea bloom happening out there right now.  There has been some action, but it happens in small flurries.  I have been fishing out by the clover leaf and Portland Point.  There are still tyee's out there being caught, however far and few between.  There just has not been too much bait out there.  Trolling big bait and big spoons has been working just fine out there.

Aug 14, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing was off the hook today.  Another TYEE for the Jaynes Addiction crew.  Today I fished out at the Hyson.  The action was spotty to start but stayed pretty consistent once it began.  The bites were on the top half of the water.  42 feet to 88 feet down.  Today was strictly a big spoon day.  We trolled the big gear looking for the bigger fish.  Exciting action and great fights!

Aug 13, 2012

Sport fishing in Tofino was a little rockey today.  The wind was strong and getting off shore required a strong crew.  We made our way out to Portland Point and fished the regular tack.  The action took a little bit to get started, but when it did, we were into some really nice fish.  The first was a solid 20 lbs caught on a naked spoon.  We continued trolling with spoons and hoochies and had some really nice fights.  Most of the action was caught at  mid water.  In the end we ended up with quality fish on a day when not many fish hit the dock.  The seas were the big factor today, hooking up was one thing getting them in the boat was another.

Aug 10 - 11, 2012

Salmon and Halibut fishing in Tofino has been awesome over the last couple days.  Tyee's are hitting the dock everyday! Of course the fog is thick here in August, but that has not slowed the fishing to much.  I have been fishing close to home here lately, Portland Point.  Mid water gear, mostly spoons but I also have a decent hoochie working very well right now.  Our action is pretty consistent throughout the day but it seems the bigger ones are bitting in the afternoon right now. That said, we did put a 33 lb salmon in the boat first thing yesterday morning.  We have also done well on Halibut,  The Jaynes Addiction crew has put a couple Hali's in the box over 40 lbs, one over 50 lbs, and a nice 72 lber.  Fantastic fishing. Check out pics on Jaynes Addiction Facebook page.

Aug 6 - 8, 2012

Tofino salmon and halibut fishing has been awesome to say the least over the last couple days. Finally, sizes that we are really use to.  We have been fishing out at the C & B trolling the big gear.  Big plugs and big spoons.  The action has been incredible, lots of pin poppers right out of the clip. The salmon have been all super strong fights.  Our average size salmon right now is around 25 lbs.  We have sorted through the smaller size and keeping our big ones.  Mid water seems to be very effective.  The Hali's are all over out at the ranch.  It has been quick work.

Aug 5, 2012

Tofino salmon and halibut fishing was decent today.  We started way out there at the nose for our hali's then over to the alian head and then the ranch.  We got all three, the largest was 19 lbs plus a decent 15 lb ling cod.  The afternoon was a total different scene out there. We had clear skies and calm wind in the morning, but by noon, we had thick fog and a brisk south east wind against a westerly swell.  Not fun.  We pushed our way out to the C and B and picked away at the salmon.  We ran the same old gear and landed three really nice hatchery coho's three chinook salmon and a decent Hali.  Great day.  Check out the pics on Jaynes Addiction facebook page.

Aug 4, 2012

Tofino salmon and halibut fishing was super fun today.  We were able to get the morning in off shore as the weather has been very cooperative.  The Jaynes Addiction crew made it out to the beagle bay and trolled around the spoons and hoochies.  We tagged our Hali's first going three for five.  We did shake hands with some large Hali's but lost the biggest ones of the day.  The big Hali was a beast, unfortunately after a ten minute stand off, the fish tore line and snapped our leader line.  Our biggest Hali was around 18 lbs.  The salmon were fun, but more or less all cookie cutters.  Most of the salmon we caught today all looked the same size, about 15 lbs.  Lots of fun today, great guests!  Come and get some people!

July31 - Aug 2, 2012

Fishing in Tofino over the last couple days has been really good at times, as well as pretty slow at times.  It seems the moon phase has pushed a lot of fish around and you get your bites in flurries.  Most of my bites are in the top 100 feet of the ocean.  Salmon have been biting on spoons and hoochies as well as anchoives.  The coho salmon are thick out there, from the penguin beak to the hysson.  There are some pretty big halibut showing up once again.  Fishing out by the of the ranch seems to produce pretty easily.  Our largest salmon over the last three days was a 28 lb salmon which came on the 7 inch plug. Big bait, big fish.

July 30, 2012

The salmon fishing in Tofino was decent again today. We fished for our salmon around Bare Island. The spoons and hoochies were working well mid water.  We landed a couple twenty pounders then we took off for some Halibut.  We stopped short at the beagle bay.  It was pretty quick work.  We landed the three we were looking for. Super fun day on the water.  It was our last day of a three dayer.  Another successful trip aboard the Jaynes Addiction

July 29, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing was outstanding today!  We started the day out at the penguin beak, trolling a spoon and a hoochie.  It took a while to get started on the salmon, but there was a pile of bait all over so our anticipation was rising.  When the bite turned on, it really turned on.  We managed three quick double headers and kept some decent salmon.  The best action came on the larger 6 inch spoon.  We continued to pick at the salmon throughout the morning.  Our largest salmon was a 28 lb salmon and our average was about 23 lbs on the salmon.  The seas have really cooperated this week, flat calm!

July 28, 2012

Salmon and Halibut fishing in Tofino was a lot of fun today.  We made our way out to the penguin beak and trolled a large tomic spoon and a hoochie.  The action was quick to start, however we started the day 0 for 4.  We needed the practice to get us started and soon we were nailing the salmon.  I sent one line deep right off the bat and our first fish was actually a 24 lb Hali.  There was bait everywhere all day long and the salmon started chomping.  We picked away all day and we were a little selective as this was the first of three days fishing with this group.  We did well by the end keeping an average of just over twenty lbs on the salmon and we also picked up our three Halibut.

July 27, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing was pretty good today.  There are certainly a larger stock swimming around right now.  We started the day at Portland Pt then made our way out past the clover leaf and up onto the penguin beak.  We hit fish all the way up, some small, some large.  We weeded through the ones we thought were small and we lost a couple pin poppers, but in the end we had a decent 20 lb average.  Spoons and hoochies were working well. We fished at all different depths, but our best was about 90 feet down. Pretty fun out there people. Lets go Fishing!

July 26, 2012

Salmon and Halibut fishing in Tofino was fun today.  The seas have been cooperating well this week, with very little wind and about a meter swell.  We started the day looking for a couple decent salmon to wrap up the end of a four day charter.  Successfully, we put two salmon that were about 22 and 20 lbs in the tub.  We then went Hali fishing and despite missing a couple that really could have tipped the scale, we put a couple Hali's in the box.
In the afternoon, we hit up the coho on the inside waters.  We found what we were looking for at the happy face bar.  Mostly on needlefish hoochies and a coyote spoon.  Another fantastic day on the Jaynes Addiction!

July 25, 2012

Tofino sport fishing, especially salmon was super fun today. The morning charter was slow to start, but picked up.  We trolled all around, starting at Portland then moved across the way to the three humps area. We did work the gear, changing between Spoons, Plugs and Hoochies.  In the end it was the hoochie and my favorite spoon that worked.  Our largest this morning was a solid 23 lb salmon which put on a great fight.
This afternoon we started fishing Halibut out at the Amphitheater.  We jigged up a couple quick Hali's on grubs.  Our biggest was 30 lb!  We ended the day salmon fishing picking off a coiuple teenagers and a quality coho.  All in all, a great day. Check out pics on Jaynes Addiction Facebook page

July 24, 2012

Salmon fishing in Tofino was incredible today.  It seems like a bigger batch of salmon have finally showed up.  The size average was better than it has been. We made our way out to the Humps area and trolled a couple spoons.  The action was decent to start right out of the gate.  We had some monster takes around 90 feet and played 4 large salmon, all plus 20 lbs, in the first hour.  We decided we would make a day of it and stay there all day.  Our largest salmon of the day was 28 lbs, however we did loose a couple that may have been bigger. The seas were as good as it gets out there and again, we saw many whales all over.

July 23, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing was decent today.  Unfortunately we had some miserable weather here today which limited our destinations. We made our way up the coast and fished close to Tree island.  We were into a couple really decent salmon, but only put one in the boat as the largest snapped us off.  There were many coho to deal with.  We trolled spoons most of the day switching to a needlefish hoochie mid morning. We also fished at Moser Pt, seeking shelter from the wind and picked away at Coho salmon.  Looking forward to getting offshore tomorrow.

July 22, 2012

The salmon fishing in Tofino was a different storey today.  We made our way back up to the west, Raphael Pt.  Again, the day started quick with all kinds of action, however, they were all under 10 lbs.  We put the big gear on, tubby plugs and large spoons, but we managed just a small size increase.  We decided to take a chance and move up to Barney rocks.  There were all kinds of coho around but no springs.  We went down to Tibbs isle, the to Bartlett, then to Blunden.  We managed just two springs all day.  We did for sure have lots of action and we were busy, just not with the size we were looking for. Tomorrow is another day!

July 21, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing was incredible today!  We went all the way up to the west and made a great day of it. The fish were a bit better size up that way.  We had loads of action throughout most of the day, catching and releasing lots of 10 - 11 lbers.  We wanted to be a little selective and it paid off.  We had a couple dandy battles with the salmon.  Our largest came on the octopus hoochies around 60 feet down.  We ended up with our limit of salmon and managed a really decent ling cod.  The whale show out there was absolutley amazing.  Breaching all day out beside us, then at the end of the day, the whale came towards us, I mean right at us.  He surfaced right beside my boat, so close I easily could have dragged my hand across his back.  He then tailed in front of my bow, and his tail rubbed the whole side of my boat!  Awesome day out there.

July 20, 2012

Salmon and Halibut fishing in Tofino was awesome today.  We made our way out to Portland point and the three humps area.  The fishing was great.  We started out trolling up a couple of quick Hali's.  The first was 18 lbs and the next was a solid 13 lb Hali.  We had another to the boat however, the Hali took a massive head shake and spit the hook right near the boat.  We stuck my favorite spoon down as well with a combo of other lures. We mixed it up and caught salmon all day long.  Our largest was a decent 24 lb salmon, and we lost a couple more that probably would have topped that one.  All in all, another fantastic day on the Jaynes Addiction.  Lots of marine life out there these days!

July 19, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing was off the hook today.  The seas were perfect with very little swell and very little wind.  The Jaynes Addiction crew made our way out to three humps, where the action was non stop.  We started with flashers and spoons, but quickly changed to large naked spoons and 6 inch plugs.  We had to work our way through smaller springs to get to the bigger ones, but we enjoyed the work.  We kept our 6 salmon along with a couple hatchery coho salmon.  We then made our way over to Beagle Bay, and found our four Halibut pretty easily.  Our biggest salmon of the day was about 18lbs and our largest Halibut was about 18 lbs. Pretty fun action all in all.

July 18, 2012

Another fantastic Tofino salmon fishing day.  We trolled around the rocks in hopes of a heavy large salmon.  We trolled a needlefish hoochie and my favorite coyote spoon.  The Jaynes Addiction crew did well today, picking away all day on decent salmon.  We hit a bunch of Coho salmon and three decent mid size Chinook salmon.  The action was great all day long as we fished a couple different inside spots.  Throughout most of the morning we were able to keep our eyes on 4 or 5 grey whales and a couple humpbacks a little off shore.   Actually we saw great marine life today, along with the whales we saw sea otters and a couple porpous!

July 17, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing was awesome today!  We trolled around on the inside today fishing for Coho salmon.  The action was consistent throughout the day.  We had our better action on the 4 inch coyote spoon.  Monk rock had a few butter there was better action  in front of Catface Mountain as well as the happy face area.  We played a tonne of fish today and can not wait to get out there tomorrow.

July 15- 16,2012

Sportfishing in Tofino has been consistent throughout the last week or so.  The morning bite has been fun, usually producing some decent salmon.  We have been fishing on the rocks for a while now, Blunden has been good as well as the white light.  Both have produced tyee's in the last few days.  There have been some large piles of bait just all over.  It does seem like a smaller average in general.  There is however some fantastic coho fishing all over the inside waters.  Hippie point as well as the catface bar have produced non stop action.  Spoons and needlefish hoochies have been rocking it out there. Check out some great pics on Facebook.

July 8, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing was a little slower today.  There was decent action to begin with, however the size was not what we were looking for.  We fished a few different places along the rocks today looking for a monster salmon, unfortunately, our largest salmon was 18 lbs.  We had a couple right around that mark.  The spoon was the hot lure today around mid water.  There does seem to be more bait showing up everywhere, so hopes are high for this week.  we are getting our limits here on the coast, so lets go fishing people!

July 7, 2012

Tofino sport fishing was off the hook today.  Salmon fishing was super fun all day.  We started out at Raphael Pt, a long run, but well worth it.  We trolled spoons and hoochies for most of the morning, then we switched to a plug and a 7 inch naked spoon.  We fished mid water, between 74 and 107 feet down.  The action was awesome throughout the day.  We landed close to twenty salmon and missed another seven or eight.  Their was little bait around, but the salmon were biting really well.  We had some very strong fights and wicked battles.  Humpback whales are starting to show up everyday.

July 6, 2012

Salmon fishing in Tofino was decent today.  We fished on the inside waters looking to fill the boat with Coho salmon.  We trolled out in front of Catface mountain with a spoon and a needlefish hoochie.  The action was quick.  We had some decent takes and landed a few really nice ones.  We had two that were pushing 8 lbs, but the average was close to 6 lbs.  We landed our 8 coho, lost a few more and released a couple.  In the 4 hour charter we were close to 20 takes.  Great action.  Off shore tomorrow for the Chinooks
.

July 3, 2012

Salmon fishing in Tofino was quick today.  We made our way out to Bare Isle today despite some strong winds and a bit of rain.  My crew were strong and eager to catch fish.  Before I was able to get the second rod down, the first popped off.  We missed the first two which was just fine with us, the practise was welcome.  Soon after we started to pick away.  We landed some decent teenagers and lost a couple really good battles.  We trolled a couple spoons, and never changed the gear once.  We wrapped up pretty fast as the weather came up to a strong wind warning very quick.

July 2, 2012

Salmon fishing in Tofino was great this morning.  We went back out off shore to Portland Pt. and we trolled a couple of spoons around.  The action got off to a quick start with bites coming at 117 and 127 feet down, but we missed the first two.  We proceeded to get the next four bites which included a nice double header.  The salmon had some decent strength and fought hard.  The seas were calm and we did see lots of wildlife out there.

July 1,2012

Tofino salmon fishing on Canada Day, always my favorite day to fish.  We left at 7 am today and we were back by 11.  Fishing was fun, we played three double headers and lots of action throughout the morning.  We trolled spoons all morning and I did not change the gear once.  The salmon were biting about 107 - 117 feet down.  We also dropped the gear in the mud and picked up a couple of Halibut. The seas were about 2 meters at the most but it was dropping all day, setting up for a nice afternoon.

June 28, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing was in great shape this morning.  I made my out to the corner, one of my favorite places to fish.  The bite was slow to start, in fact, most of the boats took off from this spot to go hit another.  As the boats spread out, I knew if I stuck it out, things would shape up.  We trolled back and forth up the wall, and soon the bite came on.  We hooked our first couple very well, but never made it to the boat.  We stayed patient and ended up with a couple nice coho, and four decent salmon.  Our largest salmon came on the spoon and was 24 lbs.  Awesome fun!  Check out great pictures on the Jaynes Addiction facebook page!

June 24-27, 2012

Salmon and Halibut fishing in Tofino was a little tough over the last couple of days.  I fished out at a few different spots trying to track a mass feed, or pockets of fish.   At best, I would say scratch fishing for the last couple days.  We managed to hook up quite a lot however they have been really reluctant bites, and therefore we have not been able to play all that many fish.  A couple days ago we were 1 for 8 on salmon and yesterday we were 5 for 9 on salmon.  We also picked up 4 chicken halibuts and some decent cod fish.  Blunden Island has been pretty steady for bites and there are some large fish in there.  Looking forward to today!

June 22, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing went off today.  We started out at Bare island and we were into the salmon immediately.  When we arrived, I was shocked at how full the TV looked.  Their was salmon and bait stacked all over the screen.  It did not take long to get into a decent little snap.   The fish were biting at all depths.  From 74 feet down to 117 feet down. The action was decent, we played a couple double headers and had some very decent fights.  After a couple hours, we pulled the pin and went up to Raphael for the last half of the day.  The action was good enough, but eventually slowed down.  Most of our action was split between a 4"spoon and a anchoive. Salmon fishing was awesome today!

June 21, 2012

Salmon and Halibut fishing in Tofino went off today.  We travelled up to the west, a little further then we are use to but it was well worth it.  We trolled one spoon and one anchoive and picked away all day.  The Halibut fishing was pretty easy.  We threw a couple smaller ones back and kept 4 decent sized Hali's.  One 44 lber and three all right around 20 lbs.  There were some great battles where the Hali's came to the boat, then made a run right for the bottom.  Salmon fishing was as good.  Lots to choose from and some really decent sizes.  The action was decent all day and we had so much fun today.  Check out pics on Jaynes Addiction Facebook!

June 19, 2012

Salmon and Halibut fishing in Tofino was so much fun today.  We started at Portland, then drifted over to three humps area and we were into one fish only.  So we picked up our gear and went down to the beach.  We fished just east of Gonzo's nose and did alright.  We picked away at both salmon and halibut.  Our largest salmon was 14 lbs but our largest halibut was 38 lbs.  A perfect sized halibut.  We trolled up all of our action using a spoon on one side and a cuddle fish hoochie on the other.  Check out the pictures on the Jaynes Addiction Facebook page!

June 18, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing was not bad today.  We made our way out to Portland Pt. despite 3.5 meter seas.  The swell was spread out but  we had a hearty crew.   The bite was satisfactory.  It was one here and one there. We went 3 for 4 on the salmon and we also managed one 18 lb halibut.  We trolled around a couple hoochies which worked quite well.  A glow cuttle and a army truck needle.

June 16-17, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing has been decent enough over the last couple days. Yesterday was wet! very very wet.  We did make our way out to Portland Pt. and fished easily both ways.  The seas were a couple meters but their was little wind.  There never seemed to be a real big patch of bait around, however the salmon were biting throughout the morning.  We picked away and managed a couple nice salmon, as well as 4 small halibut.  Today we were out Raphael Pt, all the way up to the west.  The fishing was pretty consistent for the first couple hours.  We fished well and had many hook ups.  However the fish were not that coperative.  We did loose a few fish today.  All in all.  Salmon fishing is good, but not great.

June 14-15, 2012

Although I have not salmon fished for a day and a half in Tofino,  the fishing has still been decent. I have had reports that are exciting me to get out there tomorrow and slay.  I have heard good reports way up to the west at raphael. Very consistent has been the report.  A good average  of 15 lbs or better.  Also,  fishing out at Portland has remained good as well as on the rocks.  I am so stoked to get out there tomorrow.  I am Thinking right now that  I will begin fishing for Halibut then push over to Portland and finish with Salmon.  Can't wait.

June 11, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing turned on again today.  We made our way down to a spot just off of long beach.  The action was decent.  We had to pick through a lot of little fish, but even the little fish put up a good fight. We were using a couple different needlefish hoochies down on the bottom of the ocean.  Over the course of the day, we managed to keep our limit of 4 salmon and 2 halibut.  The weather was fantastic today.  We really enjoyed the day out there. Nice to see the fish chomping once again.

June 8-9, 2012

The salmon fishing in Tofino has been a little sparce to say the least over the last couple days.  It seems like the salmon that were here last week have pushed through.   Perhaps we are between runs.  I spent 5 or 6 hours yesterday out at Portland Pt.  The bite was off for all the boats.  Although there was not much bait or birds around, we still managed a few bites.  We went 1 for 4 out there off shore.  After the little snap died, we trolled for awhile without a bite.  We decided to go into Wilf rock and we went 0 for 3.  Tough day.  Bad weather!  Today, the wind was relentless.  Huge seas.  At least 4 meters.  We fished Wilf again and went 1 for two.  Please weather, coperate.  Spoons and meat seem to be working well.

June 6-7, 2010

Tofino salmon fishing has been a little crazy over the last couple days.  Because the winds have been so strong,  getting off shore has been a challenge.  That said, Wilf rock has been a big producer.  The catch over the last couple days has been decent.  Their have been both salmon and halibut caught here.  We landed a decnt 25 lb halibut amongst a few other chickens.  The salmon bite is decent enough to keep us there.  We have shook hands with a few large and landed a hand full of close to twenty lb salmons.  I have been running an anchoive on one side and a needlefish hoochie on the other.

June 5, 2010

WOW! Salmon and Halibut fishing in Tofino was wild to say the least today.   I had a strong crew and I decided to chance off shore fishing with 20 knot winds with 2 meter seas.  We were finishing up a two day trip and I really wanted to find some Halibut. We made it out a couple miles off the light and dropped in.  The seas were angry today friends. We had a tough time getting the lines down on the bottom and then, the first big green wave we took over the back, I pulled the pin.  We were in tough seas,  !5 - 16 foot seas,  No thanks.  We hit Wilf rock for the rest of the day.  It was a blast, we started 5 for 5 and finished 9 for 13 on salmon with a couple Hali's.  The largest Hali was 30 lbs and the largest salmon was 18 lbs.  Super strong fighters in shallow water.  Great battles. Its getting good people, get yourselves to the west coast! check out Jaynes Addiction Facebook for awesome pics!

June 3-4, 2012

Salmon fishing in Tofino has been going well here lately.  We have been fishing out at Portland Pt still and having a blast out there.  The salmon fishing has been especially decent.  Lots of great action and solid sizes.  Over the last couple of days we have caught five fish all real close to twenty lbs.  The action has all come down deep. Fishing 140 feet down.  I have been using hoochies and anchoives.  He seems to be mini flurries,  when you get one you get a few, then it shuts down for a while then it fires up again. Yesterday we were 7/ 12 on salmon and today we were 10/ 15.
The Halibut are around,  we havent played to many, although we have shook hands with a couple big ones.  Over the last two days we have lost one huge halibut each day.  One extra large snaped our line off, and the other we lost at the serface. Unfortunate.  Loads of fun on the Jaynes Addiction right now. Check out pictures on Jaynes Addiction facebook page.

May 31, 2012

The salmon fishing in Tofino was pretty good today.  We left at seven this morning and made our way out to portland.  The seas were fairly decent with minimal wind and about a meter swell.  The action was a little slow to start but the bites came consistently after that.  We lost a few decent ones, but once we perfected our techniques we started putting fish in the boat.  We went one salmon short for our limit. We also fished at the same place for our halibut, we were successful, catching our halibut limit! Pretty fun day aboard the Jaynes Addiction.

May 30, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing was slowed down by bad weather here today.  The winds were blowin right from the get go, so unfortunately, off shore fishing was not a choice.  The usual spots have some fish, Moser Pt and Monk rock are getiing hit pretty good.  No large salmon that i've seen from the inside waters, but decent fights for sure.  The current is ripping pretty good this week, always makes things trickier.  Needlefish hoochies and anchoives on the inside seem to work well. Check out Jaynes Addiction facebook page for updated pics!

May 29, 2012

The salmon fishing in Tofino was fun today.  We set out early to get on the bite.  There was indeed a good snap there this morning. We trolled around some needlefish hoochies. We started a little slow going 0/3, but we landed our next three. Our largest today was a 22 lb chinook salmon.  Everything came from down deep, 137 feet and 150 feet.  I was marking lots of fish up top and lots af bait as well.  No whales out there today, looking forward to getting out fishing again tomorrow.

May 27, 2012

Salmon fishing in Tofino was decent today despite strong winds.  The action took a while to get started, but picked up throughout the morning.  We made our way out to Portland Pt once again.  Seems to be bait in big stacks here and there. Find the bait, find the fish.  We ended up with 4 salmon and a coupla hali's.  We caught most of the fish on the needle fish hoochie, again, down deep. All in all another fun trip on the Jaynes Addiction.

May 24, 2012

The salmon fishing in Tofino was fun today.  We had a beautiful sunny day with very little wind.  Portland Pt. was the place to be.  We dropped into a Halibut to start the day, a nice 20 lber.  I was using meat on one side and a spoon on the other.  We had some decent action with the salmon.  We were fishing close to the bottom most of the day but we picked up our last one about one hundred feet down.  Our biggest was about a 15 lber but all were super strong fights, and great to watch peeling line flying out of the reel! It was a great day.

May 22, 2012

Went Salmon Fishing in Tofino this afternoon with a buddy of mine and his little boy. We went for an afternoon fish close to home.  We trolled around Tibbs island and went one for two throughout the high slack tide.  The anchoive on the rocks was working well as we had a couple of scrappy fish. The one we landed was 16 lb and delicious.

May 19-20, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing over the long weekend was fantastic.  Saturday, the weather was as good as it gets.  Flat calm with very little wind. We started off immediately fishing close to the bottom with spoons.  The action was quick, we picked up our first decent salmon weighing in at 15 lbs.  We continued through a good snap for a couple hours before the action slowed down.  In the end, we picked up 6 salmon and a halibut.  We certainly missed a few that were serious contenders, however, we were happy to finish 6 for 12!
Sunday the wind picked up. Although the conditions were more extreme, we picked up 5 salmon over the course of the day, going 5 for 13 on salmon.  Again, the wind was a factor, especially handling the fishing rod. All in all, a Great weekend aboard the Jaynes Addiction.

May 17,2012

Tofino salmon fishing has continued to be consistent.  There have been some strong winds off shore throughout most of the week, but when the chance presents itself, the fishing has been good.  There have been some pretty decent smiley's around out at Portland PT.  Most
of the fish have been caught down deep near the bottom and I have been using needle fish hoochie's as well as 4" coyote spoons. Fishing is getting good people.

May 14, 2012

Salmon and Halibut fishing in Tofino is awesome right now.  The Jaynes addiction crew went out to Portland PT. this morning and we had a blast! The weather was as good as it gets out there.  Minimal swell and very little wind and lots of blue sky and sunshine.  We started the day with a decent 25 lb Halibut  and then steadily picked away at some more salmon.  We landed four out of seven in just over four hours of fishing along with another Halibut thrown in the mix.  So we limited out for two guests and went in for the day.  There were lots of bait all over the place and there were birds diving all day. We had a great day.

May11-12, 2012

Tofino fishing is going off!  We are having awesome spring fishing right now.  Over the last couple days, the tide has started to slow down after the full tide swings we had here with last weeks super moon.  So the fishing seems to have turned on again.  The Jaynes Addiction was down a little to the east yesterday and we went 3/4 on decent size salmon.  Most of our action came on the larger size hoochies down on the bottom. We tried a little bit for some Halibut but had no luck.
Today we went out to Portland Pt. and got into the fish right away.  Within the first five minutes we were into a decent size salmon.  The first three fish we hooked were on the meat, then after a bit of a slow down period we started hooking salmon on the needle fish hoochie.  Although we had some unfortunate luck with new fisherman, we still went 3/7 on salmon in just under four hours.  There was a lot of bait and so many birds, I cant wait to get out tomorrow.

May 3-5, 2012

Tofino salmon fishing over the last couple days has been a little slow. Because of the recent Super Moon, the tides are rather large right now. Simply put, the bigger the moon, the stronger the tide.  Currently we are experiencing 12- 13 foot change between the high and the low tide.  Having said all this, we are still enjoying some pretty nice days out there in terms of wind and even lots of sun!  I was out on thursday and we managed 5 Halibut and 2 Salmon.  The largest salmon was about 12 lbs caught on needlefish hoochie and our largest Halibut was a dandy 25 lb! Pretty decent!

May 2, 2012

Salmon Fishing off shore in Tofino was a little slow today.  We travelled out to Portland Pt in pretty decent weather.  A little bit of a lump but easily fishable.  We trolled around changing all kinds of gear, using anchoives, spoons and needle fish hoochies.  In the end we went one for two on salmon with the needle fish hoochie, and we picked up a Halibut.  I also had my prawn traps in the ocean and we went back up the inlet to pick them up, we scored about 150 prawns to round out the day, all in all, not bad!

May 1, 2012

Fished on the inside waters today all around Tofino.  The weather was pretty bad off shore.  We had some action over by the Village up Millar Channel.  We landed a strong 11 lbs salmon on a glow hoochie, and missed another not long after the tide change on a anchoive. The weather should be decent for off shore fishing tomorrow.  I am excited to get out their and see how the fishing is, especially the Halibut!

April 30, 2012

Here we go, here we go!  After much scrubbing and shinning the Jaynes Addiction is back in the water and looking good.  Tofino fishing is ramping up.  All indications are positive for this years salmon return, and we are already seeing signs of a large salmon run!  This is also the time of the year the Halibut start cruising up from the deep into our area.
Despite miserable conditions yesterday, we set off the dock early to test the fishing.  We spent the day on the inside fishing, checking out a few different spots. Mostly on the back side of Vargas Island.  The fishing was not bad, we went one for two on the salmon, putting a decent 11 lb salmon in the boat.  We also dropped the prawn gear and collected about 200 prawns! Delicious...

2011 Winter and Spring Fishing

December Fishing

The winter salmon fishing has started off well. Over the last week, I have been out fishing for salmon on the inside waters with much success.  The salmon are indeed biting and the sizes have been really good, averaging about nine pounds.  Delicious winter springs!  I have been using anchoives down deep and the action has been consistent throughout the ebb tide. I am looking forward to getting out tomorrow, anyone interested?

Aug 25 - 29,

Salmon fishing in Tofino has been going off!  Some of the most incredible salmon action of the year has happened this week. Over the last dew days, the Jaynes Addiction crew has seen 8 more tyee's hit the boat!  Although on the friday we seemed to be between runs, we still found large fish out at the Hyson area as well as Portland Pt. Most of our fishing is out at the Hyson spot, and I am still fishing large spoons and plugs throughout the top half of the water. The action has been incredible.  In the last few days we have seen so many fish launching out of the water, in fact we had double header tyee's that came out of the water at the same time, and damn near hit eachother in the air.  While pulling into the hyson yesterday we stopped right on top of a humpback whale, so close that we looked right down his blow hole! Pretty awesome indeed. Check out the Jaynes Addiction Facebook page for some great pics.

Aug 23 - 24

Tofino salmon and halibut fishing is off the hook still. We limited out pretty quick again today out at the starfish bank. Fishing pretty shallow still, top fifty feet. Trolling plugs around. awesome fishing in Tofino!

Aug 17 - 22

The salmon and halibut fishing is still going off in Tofino.  We have had incredible salmon fishing off the coast about 11 to 12 miles out.  Mostly out by the Nose and Penguin beak.  Their has been a great salmon bite every morning this week.  Again, all my salmon have been coming on large plugs or large spoons.  We have averaged above twenty pound salmon for easily a couple weeks now.  The humpback whales are everywhere and while fishing it is absolutely  incredible to see. Lots of jumpers and the salmon seem to pound the lure right out of the clip. Limiting out on salmon every day out.
The halibut are a bit more work, however, if committed, the hali's are there.  Usually we manage a couple over twenty lbers. and a couple chickens.  Decent enough, considering the salmon fishing is so on fire. Check out the Jaynes Addiction facebook page for updated pics!

Aug15-16

Tofino Salmon fishing is so exciting these days. Of course, the sizes are much larger and the fights are all screamers out of the pin, but the wildlife all around us is awesome! Humpback whales everywhere all day long, cruising in and out of the boats not worried just feeding and playing. Often they are flapping their tales reptitivley or spy hopping. The bait fish is everywhere and you can see the chinooks charging at them, actually launching through the water to eat the pacific sardine. Its absolutely incredible out here. We are still limiting out everyday and find we are catch and releasing mid twenties, ever hopeful for a tyee! Check out the Jaynes Addiction Facebook page for great pictures.

Aug 2nd - 14th.

Salmon fishing in Tofino has been HOT HOT HOT! Every day is so exciting to be on the water. In the last two weeks, tyee's have been hitting the dock regularily. Just yesterday there were four over forty caught offshore.  We are all fishing about 12 miles out, covering about a four mile long line of boats.  The fishing is outstanding.  We are getting as many as forty bites a day and playing all kinds of large salmon.  Often this week, I was releasing mid twenty pound salmon in search for bigger.  We are having so much fun on the water and with all kind of humpback whales in the area, the days seem to fly by.  The Jaynes Addiction crew have been catching tyee's daily for awhile. I have been using only plugs for about a month now.  The depths vary but it seems that when their is a stronger tide the fish go deeper. 61 feet has been my best number lately.
Halibut fishing seems decent as well, although most of the guests are targetting the salmon, when I do go Halibut fishing, we seem to get them trolling deep right out in front of the light.  Large hoochies sre doing the trick.

July 26 - Aug 1, 2011

Tofino sport fishing has been incredible.  It is so awesome to be on the ocean everyday right now.  The action is continuous throughout most of the day.  Portland Point has been the real deal for the salmon.  I have been fishing pretty shallow, no deeper than 43 feet using large 7 inch plugs and large spoons, all naked, no flashers.  The salmon have been great fights, often launching out of the water. Unfortunately we have lost some real dandy fish as well, but those are the fish that keep me coming back. Halibut fishing has been decent as well.  Out at the real deep spot the halibut have been aggressive, however they are smaller in size.  I have also fished for Halibut on the troll closer to home and this has produced a little larger hali! Fishing in Tofino is crazy good right now, tight lines!

July 19 - 25, 2011

Tofino Salmon fishing is the best it has been all summer!  The salmon are large and extra large. Tyee salmon are touching the dock everyday.  I have been fishing mostly in the same pocket of water out towards Portland Pt. The seven inch plugs are working the best and occasionally I have been running a 6 inch spoon. I'm pretty sure it does'nt matter what you use, however with the bigger gear we have been catching consistent twenty pound salmon. Over the past week, the Jaynes Addiction crews have caught three tyee salmon, lots of high twenties and decent size Halibut. The largest Hali for us was 42 lbs and many solid 20 lbers.  For the Halibut, I have switched spots moving closer to the light, on the sandy bottom. The action on the salmon is where it is at right now.  Salmon are launching 4 and 5 feet out of the water! Stricking the plug at 37 and 24 feet and coming straight up and out. So exciting! Check out the Jaynes Addiction Facebook page for current pics!

July 17- 18 2011

The salmon fishing in Tofino is going off.  Never has it been so consistent.  We started the last couple days at Portland Pt. and the action has been so consistent. We have had large fish on and have released many salmon over the last few days.  Our biggest today was 29.5 lbs. Almost a tyee! Super fun all day long.  We also picked up a couple hatchery coho off shore and two decent halibut on the troll.  For the most part I am using large spoons and plugs without flashers.  So much fun without the drag of the flashers.  Portland Pt. once again is going off.  The larger the gear the better!

July 15, 2011

Tofino salmon fishing was a lot of fun.  We left the early knowing it was going to be a wet day, but we were certainly not fussed.  We were going anyways.  We started fishing with the plugs and picked up fish right away.  Although the action was not as hot and heavy as the last few days, we had enough.  In just over three hours we caught 6 salmon, the largest was 25 lbs. We lost a couple and released a smaller chinook. The water was pretty sloppy today, so managing our time was important. Great day and great fun!

July 14, 2011

Salmon fishing in Tofino this morning was awesome.  We fished out at Portland Pt. once again and started with the seven inch plugs.  They worked right away. I was fishing pretty shallow to start and found my best fish around the 100 foot mark.  The bite was consistent right away.  We caught the first and released it. We kept the next four and lost one at the end. We fished for less then two hours, our largest salmon was 24 lb salmon, and the smallest was 17 lbs.  Quick work and loads of fun.

July 8-13, 2011

The salmon and halibut fishing in Tofino has been incredible for the last week.  We are seeing some of the best fishing of the year. Most boats are limiting out and with large quality fish. The average salmon over the last week has been mid twenties. Tyee's are hitting the docks daily. The fleet has been fishing out at Portland Pt. The fish have been biting throughout most of the day.  I have been running the 7 inch plugs and the action has been amazing.  Great battles each day, many jumpers and many double headers. Halibut have been a little trickier to find.  They seem to bite better in the mid morning for me.  Today we found four pretty quick ones but they were all around 14 lbs. We have been fishing close to the lite, not very far from home for the Hali's

July 6, 2011

The Salmon fishing in Tofino today was pretty exciting.  We travelled up to the west where I have been fishing for the last few days. It seemed to have slowed a little compared to what I had been used to from the previous days.  That said, we were into the fish, just not as hot and heavy.  The first bite came before I had the second rod in the water.  The first few fish were coho salmon, and then we were into a decent salmon on the spoon. Throughout the morning we stuck and stayed, and this paid off for us.  We weeded through the smaller fish and the salmon bite came on pretty thick after a few hours. Most of the action came on the spoon for me, also, the glow hoochie also caught our largest. 27 lb Salmon.  Awesome day on the water.

July 5, 2011

Salmon fishing in Tofino has been incredible over the last few days.  Today we were up fishing to the west on the rock pile with much success.   We started the day picking away at a few smaller fish, but we stuck with it and before you knew it, we were into some quality size salmon.  Our largest today was 23 lb salmon, but the smallest was about 18lb.  Very consistent size fish.  For the most part our best action came on a 3.5 coyote spoon, as well as a 5' skud hoochie.  I did try trolling some plugs around however, the action was smaller. Although I found some decent size Halibut in the same place yesterday, I only managed about a 12 lb Hali today. Did I mention t-shirt weather and flip flops. Yup!

July 3-4, 2011

Salmon fishing in Tofino has been amazing over the weekend.  The weather has finally turned and it feels like summer in Tofino.  I spent the last couple days at Portland Pt. and fished the big plugs.  Great action! Lots of fish to play with.  For the most part my fish have been coming mid water and down.  The largest salmon we have taken in the last two days was a 26lb Chinook Salmon. It was an epic battle, taking close to twenty minutes to land.  For me the Halibut fishing has slowed right down.  I have searched way out at the Ranch and all around the inside spots only managing to grab a couple mid teenagers.

June 28, July 2, 2011

The salmon and halibut fishing in Tofino, B.C. is on fire.  The salmon have been bitting consistently throughout the morning.  Although the coho have showed up, I have been running bigger gear in order to avoid the smaller size fish.  I have started the days with larger size hoochies, but quickly changed to big plugs.  Perhaps the 7 inch plugs get less bites, but they also catch larger fish.  Most of the week has been spent out at Portland Pt.  Not very far from the coast of Tofino.  All the Uklelet boats have travelled up to Tofino to catch their fish.  How dissappointing that must be, what takes us twenty minutes to get to the hole takes the Ukee boats at least an hour to get where we are. The fishing has been amazing for both Salmon and Halibut.  Throughout the morning, the salmon have been chomping.  For the last couple days, the 7 inch plugs have been killing it for me.  From mid water to the bottom, the plugs have produced.  My favorite way to fish, no interference from flashers. Although I think I may be the only guy around running plugs, my guests realise that fishing with plugs is so much more fun.  No interference from the flashers.  People, prime time has arrived.  Get to Tofino soon...

June 25 - 27 2011

Sport Fishing in Tofino has been all kinds of fun.  OIver the last few days, the salmon have continued to seek out the bait fish all around Portland Pt and the Hump area. Trolling spoons and hoochies down deep has proven to be quite successful.  The largest salmon for the Jaynes Addiction boat over the weekend was a 24 lb Salmon.  There have been a number of pinners showing up as well, but the action is still loads of fun.  Halibut have started to become a little bit sneakier.  I believe the bite has been better in the afternoon, however, they have been found in tight, just off the light as well as furthur off shore around the chicken ranch. We picked up three on saturday out at the ranch, the largest was 26 lbs.

June 23, 2011

Salmon fishing was going off in Tofino today.  The weather was easy to handle today, the seas were less than a meter with little to no wind.  The sun was in and out with a few quick showers, but real quick.  We fished close to the three humps area, and within 20 minutes we were into the salmon.  The first was a beauty 18 lber and then as soon as we put it down again we picked up another right away on the other side.  We were using an anchoive and a hoochie.  Both sides were going off.  We were picking up most of the action down deep, below 130 feet.  This morning there was all kinds of bait fish from the bottom of the ocean to the top.  The whales were going off this morning, always a great way to start the day.

June 20-21, 2011

The salmon fishing in Tofino has been going off as of late. The morning bite is very consistent and once it starts, the action becomes crazy.  Many double headers have been going on.  Where there is one, there is two.  The salmon are biting on anchoives very well and also the hoochies.  Most of the fish are deep, especially with larger tides.  Today we had to let salmon go as we had caught our limit.  I always get a kick out of watching people let fish go.  In the same zone, the Halibut are swimming. Although it does seem to be a bit better halibut fishing throughout the afternoon. Our largest over the last two days has been a solid 36 lber.  The Salmon sizes average between 18-20 lbs. Today, as we pulled into the spot, A huge Humpback Whale launched fully out of the water, his whole body was out of the water! Great way to start the day...

June 18-19, 2011

Over the weekend, the salmon and halibut fishing was incredible in Tofino.  The salmon fishing off shore is very consistent.  I fished out at Portland Pt, and I began fishing with needle fish hoochies and a 4 inch coyote spoon.  I quickly realized I needed bigger gear as the fish were thick.  I fished with larger spoons naked and 5 inch and 7 inch plugs, my favorite.  Over the last two days we have averaged 40 hits and landing more than half.  It was nice to be selective as we came home with a decent fish box each day.  The salmon were all around the 20 lb mark.  While trolling in the same area we also picked up our halibut. The hali's were aggressive both saturday and sunday.  We werte throwing halibut back.  Our largest was a 35 lb hali and the smallest was 24 lb. The fishing in Tofino is going off!

June 17, 2011

The Salmon and Halibut fishing in Tofino was off the hook today.  The ocean was still as still could be.  The majority of the boats out today fished at Portland Pt.  The fish seemed to be all over the spot at all different levels.  We caught fish from 107 ft and down.  Most of my fish were caught on bigger size spoons and a few on the herring.  We managed a solid 35 lb Halibut out there as well as a 24 lber.  Most of the boats were back early today. Absolutly off the hook!

June 13-14, 2011

Salmon Fishing in Tofino on Monday was a little tougher as the wind was blowing two meter's with a chop on top.  We managed to get one at Wilf Rock and we missed another. For a four hour charter, we were happy to walk away with a fish.  The salmon and Halibut fishing turned on today really well.  After a bit of a late start we went out to Portland Pt. and immediately joinned in on the bite.  The salmon were decent sizes today. We picked our salmon up on the gear, a glow hoochie and a coyote spoon.  Most of the fish were below 150 feet, however we did get one just above 100 feet. Our largest salmon was 24 lbs.  Towards the end we ran over five average size Hali's.  I would say 17- 20 lbers. Not a bad day for Jaynes Addiction and her crew!

June 10, 2011

Tofino Salmon and Halibut fishing is in full swing.  Today I went out for a personal fun fish and came back with my limit within two hours.  The salmon bite was incredible first thing this morning.  I went out to our regular spot at Portland Pt and the fun began right away.  I set into some nice fish and ended my day with 3 salmon, one of which I released and also picked up a couple nice size Halibut. The largest salmon was 23 lb and the Halibut that I kept was 25 lb. Great day for me!

June 8, 2011

The Salmon and Halibut fishing is on fire in Tofino.  Today we started fishing out at a traditional Halibut spot, the Ranch.  We trolled our Halibut up off the bottom from around 200 feet.  On our first tack I had a spoon and an anchoive down, however, we never had a bite.  After changing up my Spoon to a Hoochie and trolling around for about two minutes, we picked up our first dandy Halibut.  I switched the other side to a Hoochie and we were off to the races.  We managed to pick up 6 Halibut in the morning.  At the same time, down at Portland Pt. the salmon fishing was just turning on. Anchoives and spoons were rocking it.  Our tub was loaded by the end off the day.  Multiple double headers were had and the excitement on the water was as high as it has been all summer!

June 1-7, 2011

Salmon Fishing in Tofino has been incredible as of late.  All week long we have experienced a really good snap every morning.  The action has come fast and furious and we have been playing double headers everyday.  Most of the fleet has been fishing up at Bare Island.  Each day, the earlier the better!  I have been catching most of my fish on spoons as well as needle fish hoochies.  The army truck hoochie has been on fire for me. Most of the salmon have been coming from down deep, although a few more this week were caught mid water.  The action has picked up in Tofino.

May 27-29, 2011

The Salmon fishing in Tofino has tapered off a bit over the last few days.  Halibut Fishing has stayed pretty steady.  For the most part it seems we may be between runs. This said, we have managed to pick away but there has been no real bite, simply, one here and one there.  We have caught a couple up at Bare Isle. and a couple at Beagle Bay and a couple at Three humps. The best gear for me this week were the hoochies down deep.  We also caught a couple on naked spoons way down as well.  Halibut are biting pretty steady just off the light.  There have been some decent sizes caught this week, 40 lbs.

May 24, 2011

Salmon fishing in Tofino was awesome today!  The ocean was less than a meter with very little chop on top.  Light winds aloud us to make it to Bare Island, about twenty minutes from the dock.  We started out slow with no bites in the first hour, however, shortly after the first hour we picked up our first Salmon. Over the course of the next two hours we went 4 for 6 on the salmon.  Two came on the anchoive and four on the rubber. The bites came all between 107 ft and 137 ft down.  We had a great double header today which always makes things great. The action was fun to watch.

May 22, 2011

Salmon Fishing in Tofino was incredible today! We travelled twenty minutes from the dock today out to Bare Isle.  The fishing took a little bit to turn on, but eventually we managed to pick up four fish on five try's and our largest was a nice 26 lb Salmon.  The other three were all around 15 lbs.  Everything for me came on the rubber today.  I had most of the action down deep, however the largest came a little bit shallower, 107 ft.  The weather was fantastic as the seas were very calm with very little swell. Tofino fishing is awesome right now!

May 20-21, 2011

The salmon fishing in Tofino has been excellent.  The salmon have been chomping first thing in the morning and throughout the day. For the most part, offshore at Portland Pt had slowed down a little and Cleland Isle have been the spot to hit.  My action has come for the most part, deep down. Today we picked one up at 107 feet.  We went three for three today and we picked up four fish yesterday.  The salmon have been biting on hoochies and spoons. I have been finding some smaller Halibut just outside the Leonard Light while on the troll.

May 15, 2011

The salmon fishing in Tofino was so much fun today.  We travelled out to Portland Pt. where there were only a half dozen boats around.  Their was no wind at all and about a meter swell.  The fishing was slow to start, however once the water slowed a little towards the slack, the salmon fishing turned on.  We were able to pick up our limit with 4 salmon.  The bites came all on the gear today.  The hoochies were working the best all down deep at about 130ft.  While trolling, we sank our gear to the bottom and picked up a couple 15 lb Halibut's. Tomorrow, we check the prawn gear!

May 10-11-12, 2011

Sport fishing in Tofino has been exceptional these last few days.  Salmon has been great both off shore as well as in on the rocks.  Halibut has been decent just a little off Leonard light and we had a very successful day jigging for all kinds of white fish, Ling cod, Yellow Eye and a bunch of great rockfish. We have been dumping the prawn gear as well up the inlet.  We had a great haul.  Over 15 lbs of Prawn Tails after all was said and done. The weather has been the only tough part, Rain almost all day long both yesterday and today. My guests from Texas had an eye opening trip and have booked already for next year.

May 5th, 2011

Tofino salmon fishing was wild on the high seas today.  We managed to make our way out to Portland Pt, 5.5 miles off shore, and dumped our gear in.  The ocean was rollin pretty good.  We started the day with 1.8 meter swells and finished the day with close to 4 meters high.  The wind made tacking both ways challenging.  Despite the weather we caught some decent fish. We picked up two teenage Halibut's and one great Salmon.  Everything came on the rubber today and down deep. You just never know what will happen on the rough days!

May 4th 2011

Salmon fishing in Tofino has been very consistent so far this spring.  Today we went 2/3 on salmon and also picked up a couple decent size Halibut!  The commercial fleet are out off shore of Tofino right now, so considering the 100 boats or so, we did awesome with our catch!  The conditions were perfect as there was no wind and about a meter swell.  Today we caught fish on all kinds of different gear as we never really caught the fish hot and heavy, more like, one here and one there.  So, today we caught fish on glow hoochies and also the anchoive as well as the naked spoon.  With no flasher, the fight with the naked spoon was awesome.  The salmon came screaming to the surface then, launched about 3 feet out of the ocean.  It was a great day!

April 26-27, 2011

Tofino salmon fishing slowed down from the hot action on the weekend.  That said, we still managed to catch a couple each day.  I went back out to Portland Pt. and trolled around the normal tack.  We picked up two out of three, one came on the glow Hootchie and another came on the 4" coyote spoon.  Both salmon came from down deep near the bottom.  The weather was really nice, no wind and just a meter swell made for a great day on the water.  We trolled toward the inside looking for some Halibut and managed just one small one.

April 20-25, 2011

Sport fishing in Tofino has been incredible this week.  Salmon fishing has been as consistent as fishing throughout  August.  Over the past week, the Jaynes Addiction boat has been enjoying great success!  Travelling offshore to Portland Pt has been easy because of some decent weather.  All week the wind has been calm and we have actually enjoyed sunshine.  Many salmon have been caught over the last week and their have been decent sizes.  The average has been around the 15lb range however, we have caught salmon  measuring 26 lbs!  Mostly catching our salmon on anchoives and Hoochies closer to the bottom.
Halibut fishing has been decent as well!  Over the past week, I have caught Halibut everyday I have been out.  The largest was a decent 52 lb Halibut and many in the 30 lb range.  Again, travelling no further than Portland Pt.

March 24-28, 2011

Salmon Fishing in Tofino has been incredible as of late!  The Jaynes Addiction crew have been enjoying some decent success.  Of course the weather has been an issue since about last November, however, the good news is that we have only really been fishing the inside waters. Moser Pt has been on fire especially throughout the tide change.  The size of the salmon have been surprising, This week our largest has been 17 lbs! Incredible, thats a tyee in a couple of months.  The average is probably close to 11, or 12 lbs.  Fantastic.
The prawning is also on fire.  I have been travelling up to the west a little, close to the Native village and harvesting decent umbers of tasty prawns. The fun is always in the anticipation. Pink Gold!

March 8, 2011

Fishing for salmon in Tofino today was great fun! The fishing around the tide has been our best opportunity to land some salmon.  So, with that in mind, I went out for a fish for the afternoon high tide.  I  went over to Moser Pt, nice and close to home, and we dumped in the trusty 4inch coyote spoon and a needle fish hoochie.  We marked a lot of bait right close to the rock, so I trolled back and forth through the bait a few times.  Finally, just as I was going to give up we picked up a salmon on the hoochie.  SUCCESS! It is always nice to pick up a fish right where it should be and at the right time.  On second thought, is the ever a bad time?

March 7, 2011

Salmon fishing in Tofino is decent right now.  The day started out with blue sky and sunshine and ended with rain, typical Tofino weather.  We dumped the prawn gear in up Ross pass and then went salmon fishing at Clifford Pt.  Our timing could not have been any better as the high tide was about an hour away.  And without fail, as soon as the slack started, the fish started bitting!  The first was just a little to small coming from about 120 feet down on the spoon.  We decided to release this lucky fish and continued on.  We were trolling a spoon and a hoochie, but, soon after the first bite we switched to two spoons.  We managed a couple more decent bites all down near the bottom.  The largest of the day was a scrappy 13 lb wild chinook salmon and we also picked up a 10 lb chinook!  3 for 3, a success! The prawns were also fun,  the anticipation is awesome.  We picked up both strings and collected 100 PRAWNS.  Totally awesome.  Another great day on Jaynes Addiction.

March 3, 2011

Hurricaine winds have hit the coast of Tofino.  The waters have been hitting close to ten meters at high tide as the wind has continued to blow upwards of  55 knots.  Despite the terrible weather , the Jaynes Addiction crew were successful on a inside water charter.  We had a dropped a Crab pot inside the harbour in the morning to check later in the day, then we proceded to drop the prawn traps.  The salmon fishing was futile as the conditions were just to rough, so while we gave the prawning a bit of time to soak, we jigged an assortement of quill backs!
The day was a lot of fun! We tried some different things and really enjoyed a sea farer's choice charter.  We harvested about 80 delicious prawns and two decent Crab!  I am looking forward to trying our luck at some Halibut fishing as soon as we can get offshore!

Feb 28

Tofino winter salmon fishing has been decent again this week.  We were lucky to mark a few right away at Moser pt yesterday, and we hit one shortly after arriving.  The glow needle fish has been the best lure working for me lately.  I have been trying different spoons but not having much success right now. The weather is going to be wet over the next few days, and I will be on the inside waters prawning away! We are all anticipating the arrival have Halibut season tomorrow.  With any luck from the weather, the offshore waters will be calm and we can find some flat fish this week!

Feb 20 - 24

Tofino fishing in the winter has been incredible all week.  Not to mention the weather has been awesome.  Aboard the Jaynes Addiction, we have been expolring the inside waters.  Prawning has been a great time. I have been learning more and more about the sport and we have been successfull all week.  The jigging is as consistent as ever, with all different species including some decent size Yelloweye's. Throughout the slack we have been seeing lots of bait and catching quality size winter springs.  The largest this week was a 9 lber.  Reports from offshore have been encouraging as well. I had a friend out who went 2 for 6 on salmon strikes.

Dec 29th, 2010

Salmon Fishing all around Tofino has been decent.  I have heard from some reliable sources of some salmon showing up in a few different areas.  The salmon are the winter springs, immature salmon waiting to beef up for the next year. These salmon are very aggressive. When they bite, they rip the line right out of the rigger. The salmon that we have been catching are biting on the needle fish hoochies, down pretty deep. All around 100 feet.  Moser Pt and Monk Rock seem to be pretty consistent.

Dec 26th, 2010

Fishing in Tofino is always fun.  Fishing on Boxing day, away from the malls and all the shoppers, is even more fun. We had a blast! Me and a buddy went over to Moser Pt and fished for a couple hours.  We put down some small needle fish hoochies, and trolled all around the rocks.  We did go out about an hour before the tide was to swing, but it was not until about an hour after the tide swing that we got into a little snap.  A little slow to react, we missed the first bite, and shortly after that we missed another. Although we missed those bites we were ready for the next, a real scrappy 9 lber.  These salmon are so aggressive in the colder water, and offer a great battle.

Dec 20, 2010

Winter fishing in Tofino is so much fun! Although, gearing up in the morning, I asked myself if I was crazy.  I could hear the rain drops on the roof and it was still dark out at 8 am.  I put on an extra sweater and made my way down to the boat.  I was excited to go out and check the prawn traps with a couple buddies, up Ross pass.  It rained off and on all day, but our luck was incredible.  We pulled the trap that was set a few days ago to find all our bait gone and about 40 prawns in each. I knew that we had let the pots soak to long but, we all knew we were onto something good.  Despite the bait being gone the pots were still pretty full. We dropped the trap line again in the same area and then went across the bay and dropped a second trap line. Then we went fishing at Clifford Pt.  The salmon were there!  We trolled a couple glow hoochies deep, and quickly found a couple delicious winter salmon. It was fantastic.  We then went and jigged a few points all around and had great success.  By the end of the day we picked up three great yellow eye's and a few quality cod fish.
After 4.5 hours, we went back to pull the traps.  We absolutly loaded up. We filled a garbage can full of PRAWNS!  It was awesome.  I have'nt seen  anything like it.  For such a short quick set we sure cleaned up.  It was great, I am looking forward to tommorow, it should be just as good after 24 hours.

Dec 15, 2010

Tofino fishing in the winter is on fire.  Today we had a fabulous day on the water.  We went and picked up the prawn gear up the inlet that had been soaking overnight. To our delight, we picked up close to six hundred prawns. After setting the pots down again, we went and trolled the salmon gear around out in front of the village.  We kept two beauty salmon both around 11, 12 lbs.  We had a bit of action about two hours before the tide change. We released a smaller salmon then farmed one after it popped the clip.  When we went back to pick up our prawn gear, we were shocked.  We picked up our gear and with the anticipation high, we scored large.  We picked up another 400 or so medium to large prawns. Their must have been 10 lbs of tails at the end of the day!  Super fantastic.

Sept 6 - 9

The start  of the fishing week here in Tofino was awesome.  The fish were still chomping right off the bat first thing in the morning.  On Monday morning we fished at the regular Portland Point tack, and before we had the second rod in the water we had a bite down deep.  Around 117 feet was our best number and within the first five minutes, each of my three guests had a fish in the boat.  The action was fantastic and continued all morning as we had the opportunity to be selective, releasing quality teenage fish.  Most of the action came on the rubber hoochies, however, I did put the big gear on towards the end of the day and we still caught fish on plugs and large spoons. The next day we went out to do some bottom fishing, and cleaned up on all sorts of species, Ling Cod, Sea Bass, and a decent Halibut as well.  The best day of the week came on the thursday as we hit the double digit figure and landed some large salmon.  Our biggest that day was 24lb salmon as well as a 23 lb salmon.  We released a lot of salmon all morning trying to upgrade.  We ended the day with a couple real nice size Halibut.  A couple over 20 lbs sure looks good in the box at the end of a trip.  Great crew and great trip for another successful trip aboard the Jaynes Addiction.

Sept 1 - 5

Tofino salmon fishing and Halibut fishing have been incredible as of late.  The salmon continue to show up in large numbers and sizes.  We have been fishing out at the Heisson and the Alien head, and I am still running the naked spoons as well as big 7 inch plugs.  The bite has been strong right off the hop, still closer to the top half.  The ocean conditions have been consistent, although today was a windy day and the ocean did kick up a little, the fishing was still manageable both ways. The largest for the Jaynes Addiction crew over the last few days is a healthy 28 lb salmon.  The Halibut fishing is also doing good.  I have caught a few out at the ranch area, but the better quality has been in at the Sturge area, solid high twenties and low thirties.

Aug 24 - 26

The salmon are still chomping In Tofino.  The last few days have seen more bait push through in the morning and the salmon are biting.  Their have been some decent tyee's caught all around, in the upper 30's.  We have been fishing a little bit deeper over the last days. I have been fishing at about 80 feet.  Most of the action is right away in the morning.  The spoons have been doing very well and the plugs continue to get our bigger fish.  I have not fished for Halibut in a couple days, however I know some of the boys are still picking away at the bottom and doing well.  The conditions picked up a bit.  The wind has come up but not enough to keep us away.   The weather always plays with the boat.

Aug 20 -23

Salmon fishing and Halibut fishing in Tofino are both exceeding all our expectations.  The salmon bite has continued to be strong throughout the morning.  The bait is all over the place and the humpback whales are leaping right out of the water.  The action on the rods is all on the top half of the ocean.  I have been running the large spoons and the plugs.  We have been hitting a lot of medium size salmon with a few large ones in the mix.  We are able to limit out everyone still and have the choice to upgrade while catching and releasing the ones we want.  Halibut fishing is a little slower, however with some patience we are ablr to find a few. We landed a couple 30 lbers on Monday, pretty nice weight to the box indeed.

Aug 17 - 18 - 19

The fishing is Awesome in Tofino!  The salmon have continued to produce in great numbers.  The bite for the Jaynes Addiction crew has been happening at the amphitheatre.  The salmon have been biting on the plugs.  The fights have been incredible, often the salmon are leaping put of the water.  Bites are happening in the top 60 feet of water.  We have been involved with some extra large salmon for sure, and have had some tough battles, however we have lost some of the bigger ones.  Our biggest over the last three days was a 31 lb salmon.  Today we did a one wayer over 4 miles.  The weather was pretty large.  The winds were coming from the west which made the ocean chunky.  The Halibut have been pretty consistent.  We landed a couple of 25 and 27 lbers out at the ranch.  Their have been some decent Hali's caught closer to Leonard light as well.

Aug 15 - 16

Salmon Fishing in Tofino has been excellent!  Over the last couple days, some huge salmon have been caught.  We have been fishing anywhere offshore.  It seems that fishing everywhere is on fire.  I have been trolling the large plugs and finding real quality salmon.  Their have been some great fights.  We had great action all day long. Today my guests limited out on 8 salmon this morning and also picked up a few decent size halibut.  In the afternoon, we had a catch and release program.  The boys had never played a salmon before.  They were awesome on the rods.  We played extra large size salmon, releasing high twenties and even releasing a 41 inch by 27 inch salmon, really close to 40 lbs.  We took great pictures then had a successful release.  A great day all in all.

Aug 9 - 14

Tofino fishing is at it's best right now.  We are having great success with both Salmon and Halibut.  The fish are absolutley huge. We have been shaking hands with big fish all week.  I have been using plugs and big spoons, both styles naked, with no flasher.  Trolling a little quicker with the big gear and watching the rods pop right out of the rod holders.  The fights are so much fun to watch! Peeling line and launching out, sometimes like four feet. We are heading out about twelve miles.  The conditions have been absolutly gorgeous. Calm winds blue sky, I have even been jumping in the ocean for a cool down.  The salmon are coming off the top half of the water.  The halibut, at the right time are fairly easy to find.  Within one or two drifts, the Halibut seem to show up.  We have been catching decent quality halibut.  I saw a 167 lb halibut on the dock the other day.  The monster was huge!

Aug 1 -  Aug 8

Salmon fishing in Tofino has continued to be great.  The bite has been better and better first thing in the morning.  For the most part, we have been fishing way off shore at the Heisson or the Alien head.  Both spots follow the same contour line and the fishing has been very consistent. Aboard the Jaynes Addiction we caught a tyee, salmon over thirty, six days in a row. Our largest throughout the stretch was a 39 lb salmon.  In fact we have been catching some large tyees, a couple at 37 and one at 36.  I have been running my large spoons and the 7 inch plugs.  The G. E. M. has been killing it out there.
Halibut fishing has been just as great.  We have been picking up our Hali's in one drift. No extra large Hali's, but very consistent sizes.  Picking them up on the grubs, and it does not matter which colour.
Salmon fishing in Tofino has been so exciting.  I have been jumping out of bed every morning so that I can get my day started.  Tyee's are swimming up shallow.  My favorite depth has been 51 feet down, and when they bite, they tear the line right out and keep running.  Without the flasher they seem so much stronger.

July 27-29, 2010

Tofino sport fishing has endured some large tide swings this week.  As a result,  the fish are not stacking up and holding.  All the bait fish are getting pushed around.  We have fished slowly all around at places like the C and B and the Begal Bay.  There are fish all over, they are just not stacking up.  Yesterday a little birdy had told me that the fishing had picked up to the south of us.  So, we went for the drive.  I had a father son combo, and we had a great day.  Within the first five minutes we were into a great salmon fight.  We were fishing the top half of the water and the action was insane.  Every few minutes, the rods were popping.  We had a great time with the plugs as well as the spoons.  The artificial gear has been killing it.  Our largest salmon was 25 lbs.  We caught our four salmon limit for two guys and then decided to go try our luck at the Halibuts.  We stopped at an old stand by spot on our way back.  We made two long drifts before we found the halibut we were looking for.  A great 25 lb Hali which put up a great fight. On our next drift in the same spot we picked up another 27 lb Hali.  All in all, another great day for the Jaynes Addiction crew!

July 22- 26, 2010

Tofino sport fishing has been awesome!  The fish have been leaping on the lines.  Some very large fish have hit the docks in Tofino.  For the most part the fleet have spread out in search of the big one.  I have been fishing mostly around Portland Pt and the Beagle Bay area.  The strong morning bite has produced solid salmon.  We have been throwing mid to high teenage fish back and keeping any salmon over twenty.  Some extra large salmon have been biting up top, within the first 50 feet.  Those are the exciting battles.  The salmon peel the lines right off the clip and keep running.  I have had the pleasure of watching many double headers with my guests.
The Halibut are a strong fishery as well right now.  We are droping in just off Leonard Light and if it does not happen right away, then we are drifting not to far away, with much success.  The largest we have caught this week is a 43 lb Halibut!  Very strong fight.  We also picked up about a 50 lb skate fish the other day which we let go, but a great fight nonetheless.

July 19-21,2010

Tofino sport fishing over the last few days has been incredible.  The weather has been decent and we have been fishing very successfully off shore.  There have been some huge fish caught.  Tyee's are hitting the dock every day now.  For the most part we have been fishing in old traditional spots like Portland Pt, and the Heisson.   The start to the days have been really good, on fire!  As soon as we get to the spot, you drop a rod and keep your eyes peeled, because it has not taken long to get the bite.  I have been running plugs exclusively near the top and when they hit, the salmon immediately start ripping line out of the reel.  Our biggest salmon has been 34 lbs over the last couple days and we are averaging a good 20 lbs on the salmon.  Although, the halibut are biting just as well, our average hali is about 18 lbs.  That said, my buddy Booby was successfull at landing a 129 lbHali just yesterday.  A few very decent days aboard the Jaynes Addiction in Tofino, B.C.

July 17-18, 2010

Tofino sport fishing is on fire.  We have limited out both days!  Yesterday and today we were trolling the plugs at all depths under a hundred feet. The salmon were biting right off the hop.  Our biggest salmon yesterday was 29 lbs and our biggest Halibut was 34 lbs.  The fishing was fantastic for both species. I trolled the 7 inch plugs for both salmon and hali. Today was the same.  We hit quality fish throughout the morning and then we travelled up to see some whales.  They were outstanding.  We shut off the motors and drifted while watching the grey whales.  They came right to the boat.  I mean right at us, within five feet, they surfaced and we could see the whales two feet under the water just swimming all around us. It was amazing.

July 15-16, 2010

Tofino salmon and halibut fishing is incredible right now.  I have been fishing only a few miles off shore and just a little up to the west.  Both yesterday and today we limited out.  Yesterday the conditions were a little lumpy riding out in the morning.  However, there was very little wind and we were able to fish easily both ways.  We had our first bite before I had the second rod in the water. The salmon started to bite first down around 100 feet deep.  Soon after I dropped my rods down to the bottom and we were into a fair number of Halibut.  Our biggest Hali yesterday was 38 lbs.  The salmon were average size of about 15 lbs.  There were many salmon bites both yesterday and today, so much so, that we sarted fishing with plugs.  I love fishing plugs, the fight is so much more genuine.
The conditions were much the same today.  Again we limited out quickly. Again, mostly on plugs.  Both the Halibut and the Salmon were biting plugs.  We had some great fights today. Our biggest Salmon was 28 lbs today.  Aother great trip for the Jaynes Addiction.

July 11-12, 2010

The sport fishing in Tofino has had some pretty huge winds to deal with.  The coast of Vancouver Island has been getting gale force winds for a couple days now.  The fishing has therefore been limited to the inside fishing.  While getting ready to leave the dock yesterday we were treated to a few killer whales coming down through the channel.  The coho fishing is getting really fun, we have been using the buck tales out behind the boat and having a great time.  Some decent sizes are showing up in places like Moser Pt and Monk rock.  The needle fish hoochies and smaller size spoons work well.

July 8-9-10, 2010

Tofino salmon fishing has been on fire!  The salmon have been hitting the docks and bigger fish are here.  Over the last few days we have experienced amazing weather and getting spoiled with the fish.  Both salmon and Halibut fishing has been very consistent.  Much of the action has come throughout the slack, but there has been a decent salmon bite first thing in the morning.  Although their is a lot of action some of the bites a re smaller.   We have been hitting 20 lbers  every day this week.  There has been high thirty fish here all week.   The halibut fishing is incredible as well.  We are finding them all over the place so we have been able to fish for salmon and halibut in the same place.  I have been fishing in places like Cleland  Island and three humps.

July 5, 2010

Tofino salmon fishing has continued to be excellent.  Over the weekend, there were a few tyee's caught.  The weather was a bit of an issue.  We have had some gale force winds, limiting us to one way tacks.   I have been fishing at Cleland island and producing quality size fish.  The Halibut have been biting in the same general area. I have been throwing the scuddle fish hoochies on the bottom in order to catch the Halibut.  The salmon continue to bite the spoons.  It has been fantastic fishing in Tofino.

July 3, 2010

Tofino salmon and halibut fishing has been excellent over the last few days.  The Halibut fishing has produced a good size average, close to 30 lbs.  Most of the fishing has been close to home, Cleland Island has been the go to spot.  We have  been successful at both salmon and halibut in the same spot.  The salmon fishing has been on fire.  The bites are coming deep.  Way down in the mud.  I have been trolling gear and hammering on decent size salmon.  The magic little coyote spoon has been killing it as well as the needle fish hoochie.  The average size has been just over twenty lbs.  Their have been a few tyee's caught over the last few days as well.  Again, Tofino fishing is on fire.
